Another week, another movie. This movie has a special place in my heart because the person who recommended it to me is no longer with us. This guy was quite a character to say the least, but I will get into that more below. This movie is a dark comedy and you really have to find humor in the dry, awfulness of life to truly enjoy this movie. There are so many great quotes it is hard to choose just one.
This is the only way that you can hope to survive. Because life… is not a movie. Everyone lies. Good guys lose. And love… does not conquer all.
Possible spoilers below too. If you haven’t seen it go watch and also don’t stay on the menu screen too long, it has some of the best one liners there and you need to hear them in the context of the movie.
Welcome to another week and another post. This has been a fun series to relive my favorite movies and movie quotes and moments. I used to be a bit of a “nerd” about this. I would go and print the quotes from my favorite movies on IMDB and put them in a 3 ring binder. Well, I found that binder and I’m going to be using it as I go through this series.
Anyway, the movie today is one of my favorite movies but it also has my favorite actor, Kevin Spacey. He is the best!! Come on Tony awards!!! (He will be hosting if you didn’t know.) I heard a lot about this movie and once I saw it, it blew my mind, just like the quote.
After that my guess is that you will never hear from him again. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist. And like that… he is gone.
(Possible spoilers below, if you haven’t seen this movie or The Sixth Sense please stop reading now. Watch both of these great movies then come enjoy)
This is my favorite movie, despite the length, I’ve seen this movie so many times that I can practically quote it line for line. I still remember the first time I saw this movie, it was life changing. I was like 8 years old and seeing this grand movie on screen was breathtaking. Even just writing the title here, I can see the opening credits and the title “blowing” across the screen. Everything about this movie seems big and grand. Scarlett, played by Vivian Leigh, is just the star this movie deserved. This really is her movie and though there are many, this quote seems to be something we can all relate to.
I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.
I am going to be honest there are far too many quotes from this trilogy that I love and matter to me. I am reserving the right to use more than one post to discuss the quotes of these movies. The first one that really got me was from the second movie though. This line is the last part of a monologue from my favorite character Samwise Gamgee to Frodo. In all honesty, I know the whole monologue by heart, but we won’t go there now.
That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.
Welcome to week one, blog post one for my newest category “When Movies Say It Best”. I have always been an avid movie watcher and movies have been my main means of escaping. They have brought me joy and pain throughout the years, often times the most memorable quotes for me come from the saddest of movies. Every Friday I will be posting a single quote from a movie and explaining just why it means so much to me. Please come with me on this journey as I remember all the movies that have shaped my life and the quotes that still inspire, invoke thought or simply provide pleasure for me.
My favorite quote to date comes from the ever famous and beloved movie “The Shawshank Redemption” from the lead character Andy.
Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.
