Taking a Closer Look

There are times when you are lucky and get exactly what you are looking for and you find amazing beauty around you that you had not seen before. I was pleased in the picture below to see a bee flying around. I had no idea that I had captured it, glad while I was taking the picture I didn’t notice it, but now looking back I think it adds something to the image, just like in life when we might have missed something but then take a closer look.

All too often life isn’t what we thought it would be and we end up being disappointed by what we see in our everyday. I think sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves and those around us to be or do things that we just aren’t capable. Life really is a beautiful thing, but being busy or distracted often keeps us from seeing just that. Sometimes once we leave a situation or person, “you never know what you have until it’s gone”, then do we begin to take a closer look and see what we truly had.

In all honesty, if I had noticed this bee when I was shooting this picture I probably would have been freaked out, to say the least. Sometimes we get so focused on what we are doing that we miss the small details. We miss seeing what is right in front of our faces and we could miss something life changing because we have our head so wrapped up in something beyond our sights or because we don’t stop to see the details. Life is about the little moments, the little surprises, and in the end all the little things will create the greater story of your life.

We all have to remember to see what is there and take a deeper look at what is around us, because we never know what we might miss. Beauty, love, friendship, don’t burst through the door, it quietly knocks and if you miss it then you might not get the chance to experience it again. So today take a little break and slow down a little to see what is really there in front of you, evaluate where you are and where you want to be going and see if you might have missed something that was staring you in the face the whole time, but you have just been too busy to see.

  1. It’s so hard to live in the “now”, but it’s something I aspire to do. Your photo with the bee really highlights why it’s so important to pay attention to the present and enjoy it without “freaking out and missing the details.”
